PS 96 Future Me Make-a-thon

PS 96 hosted the Future Me Make-a-thon, under the guidance of Lliana Villegas, on November 3rd in the school’s Maker Space. Students have been researching STEM Careers and the challenge for the Make-a-thon was to select a career and develop a 3D badge in TinkerCad that represents that career, then to develop a Web site explaining the career using Adobe Spark.
While it was a rainy Saturday morning, many educators and students showed up to try out 3D design and see PS 96’s MakerBot Farm print out badges. Those who were new to 3D Printing watched as what they created in TinkerCad came into being.
We had nurses and engineers and firefighters represented, and when we created our Web pages in Adobe Spark we included information like how much a starting salary is for a nurse or firefighter. Connecting Making to content is as simple as finding a tool that can leverage a different awareness of a topic and is engaging for students.
We’ll be having Digital Builds represented at the Maker Ed Edcamp on Dec. 27th, be sure to join us then and see how to create in TinkerCad and use tools like Adobe Spark.
