Making in School
Cohort Member
PS 175 is a DOE SEP Jr. Cohort member, and is working to incorporate the Engineering Principals of Making into their classes. One way is through parent involvement in Making events like the Hack-a-thon held in October.

Why did you choose a career in education?
I feel like school gets a bad rap for not being a fun, warm, and exciting place, and with everything we have at our disposal nowadays, I want to do my part to help public schools adapt. I also want to help with access and exposure to contemporary technology, methods, and practices being utilized elsewhere to great effect.
What hobbies or other interests have your brought to your classroom?
Music and film production, graphic design, gaming (all forms, table-top, digital, multiplayer, single player, etc.), game design, writing, drawing.

How do you plan on bringing Making to your students this year?
We've done some Website building, digital game development, and robotics tinkering, although in most cases, if we weren't following a series of lessons, we worked with a select group to be able to get the most out of the experience. I want as much of our Maker community to include our parents and families so they bring the ideas and projects home to continue, complete, and carry forward.

Making Space
The classic set up of the computer lab where Mr. Borba works most with his students is something he's been dreaming about changing. We spoke of Chromebooks and flexible seating arrangements to allow students space to move and build. At this point it's still in discussion, but the ideas are percolating.
Making Experiences
By creating strong community connections through Making PS 175 is fostering an approach to Making that goes beyond the classroom.
