MFSC Maker Ed Cohort Kick Off

On August 2nd, 2017 the MFSC Maker Educator Cohort Kick Off took place at the MFSC office at 333 7th Avenue. The morning started off with a discussion on what Making is, how it can be used to deepen understanding of content areas, and how we can unchain the concept of Making from a designated space only and bring it into our classes.

In the afternoon members of the cohort took a field trip to Material for the Arts in Long Island City, where they were able to gather supplies for projects and be inspired.

Day two of the kick off was back at the office at 333 7th Avenue, this time more educators joined the cohort and together made 3D postcards. The point of the project was to open discussion around Making, tool saftey and instruction as well as the development of assessments. At the end of the day the cohort was ready to start thinking about Making with their students in the fall.

Upcoming field trips include the World Maker Faire, inter-school visits and more. Stay tuned.
