Making in School

The Island School has been running a Maker Space under the auspices of Dr. Lou Lahana for several years. Known as the Techbrarian, Dr. Lahana's curriculum focuses on social awareness and activism.

Why did you choose a career in education?
To help bridge our country's educational divide and inspire urban youth.
What hobbies or other interests have your brought to your classroom?
Music creation, film-making, Arduino, metal-smithing, and social activism.

How do you plan on bringing Making to your students this year?
Social Action products to raise awareness or help solve real-world problems, research social issues and create solutions using a variety of Maker tools and materials.
